Now it's possible that link has improved now and that it wasn't a hardware issue but software optimization as I saw AMD fixed some bugs with link again (as they broke it for ages.) so maybe they finally got round to working on it as they must have less resources than Nvidia so this small (relatively) market isn't a focus point it's a side project. I have just swapped out for a 3080 and it's night and day difference compared to my Vega 64 and I am now happy to say link works great. Oculus set the default bitrate 100mbits for AMD and 250mbits for Nvidia so they were already seeing performance differences. My friend had the 5700xt and his was better than my Vega but it's not amazing and isn't something I would say is a great experience.

My Vega 64 wasn't able to do anywhere near 100mbit/s via oculus link, it was stuttering and a blocky mess most of the time and I had tried at least 10 different versions of their drivers incase it was that but it didn't improve. It was reported often and I would love to be wrong but AMD encoding performance is not close to Nvidia currently (say Nvidia 2000 series onward) The issue this exposes is that encoding performance massively affects this on how fast and at what quality the gpu can generate the stream to send on.

The quest as it doesn't have a display port it's actually (as I understand it) encoding the video output to stream it via USB (or WiFi) from pc to quest rather than using the display signal.
